Rejected under Guideline 3.1.1 – In-App Purchase

Apple has strict rules on how digital content and features are sold inside an app. When something doesn't fit them, the app is rejected under 3.1.1.

What this rejection means

Guideline 3.1.1 sets out how apps may sell digital goods, features and content, with exceptions that depend on the type of app and, increasingly, on the region. The rules have changed several times in recent years.

What is at stake

Payment rejections go to the heart of how the app makes money. A wrong fix can mean rebuilding the purchase flow twice, or giving up revenue the rules would have allowed.

When to talk to us

  • The message doesn't make clear what to change
  • You resubmitted and got the same answer
  • A launch, an update or a campaign is waiting on this
  • You're not sure whether to reply, resubmit or appeal

Why it takes more than a quick fix

Which rules and exceptions apply to your app depends on your business model, your markets and how the app presents its offer. Getting it right needs both the guidelines and the business in view.

Questions

Do we have to change our business model?

Usually not. Most of the time the question is how the app presents and sells its offer, and that depends on your case.

Can you guarantee approval?

No one outside Apple and Google can promise how a review will go. What we can do is find the real cause, remove what we can see would block approval and give the reviewer everything they need.

Do you need access to our accounts?

It helps, but it is your choice. We can work from screenshots, exports and a build, or with a limited role you add and remove yourself.
