Google Play

Rejected by Google Play for sensitive permissions

Some Android permissions are restricted on Google Play, such as location in the background, photos and videos, SMS or call logs. Using them without Google's approval leads to rejection.

What this rejection means

Google Play limits a set of sensitive permissions to apps it considers need them, and reviews each case. Whether a permission can be justified, and how, is not always clear from the rejection.

What is at stake

Permission rejections block every update until they are resolved, and some features may need to be rethought.

  • You're not sure whether to reply, resubmit or appeal

Why it takes more than a quick fix

The right answer depends on your app and on how Google reads its policy. It is a product decision as much as a technical one.

  2. We find the real causeWe look at your case the way the store does, and find what is really behind it.

  4. We help you answerYour reply to the reviewer or your appeal, and follow-up until the review is closed.

Questions

Can we keep the feature that needs the permission?

Sometimes. It depends on the feature and on how Google reads its policy, and that is what we look at first.

Can you guarantee approval?

No one outside Apple and Google can promise how a review will go. What we can do is find the real cause, remove what we can see would block approval and give the reviewer everything they need.

Do you need access to our accounts?

It helps, but it is your choice. We can work from screenshots, exports and a build, or with a limited role you add and remove yourself.
